Predicting 2034: Reliable Logical Qubit
In April 2024, Microsoft and Quantinuum announced the development of a reliable logical qubit, a milestone that, in my view, significantly accelerates the timeline toward Q-Day. This development represents a major breakthrough in the universal quantum computing approach. If the results hold true to their claims, it implies that the majority of error-correcting challenges have been addressed. This means that achieving Cryptographically Relevant Quantum Computing (CRQC) through universal quantum computing may now largely be a question of scaling. Given this significant advancement, I have decided to move up my Q-Day prediction by one year.
